Ogunquit Museum of American Art to Host a Weekend in June of Vibrant Floral Interpretations for Art in Bloom

OGUNQUIT, Maine — The Ogunquit Museum of American Art will host its annual Art in Bloom event from Friday, June 23 through Sunday, June 25. During this three-day event, the museum will showcase up to 15 floral sculptures created by area garden clubs, professional florists, and independent floral designers. Responding to works of art on view, each designer will present an arrangement made from organic matter including seed pods, driftwood, and other natural treasures.

“We love to see color, texture, and themes from the works of art in the museum captured in floral interpretations,” said Amanda Lahikainen, PhD, Executive Director of Ogunquit Museum of American Art. “This event is a fantastic way to showcase local talent, bring nature into the galleries, and welcome our guests with a burst of color.”

The exhibitions that will be on view during the event are Shifting Sands: Beaches, Bathers, and Modern Maine Art; Joe Wardwell: Mural Commission; Networks of Modernism, 1898–1968; and The Architect of a Museum.

The museum will celebrate the event and the floral designers at the Art in Bloom Garden Reception on Sunday afternoon. There will be drinks and light fare; the visitor’s choice award for best floral display will be announced. The celebration takes place from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s outdoor Sculpture Garden.

About the Ogunquit Museum of American Art
Opened in 1953, OMAA was founded by Lost Generation artist Henry Strater. Closely tied to one of the earliest art colonies of the American modernist art movement, OMAA today houses a permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs from the late 1800s to the present.
