Join us for a one-of-a-kind evening with Portland author MZ celebrating her debut novel, The Moorings of Mackerel Sky—a luminous work of magical realism rooted in the coastal spirit of Maine.
The event begins with an intimate conversation between M.Z. and Peggy Harvey, exploring the story behind the story: a fishing town shaped by mermaid lore, the threads of grief and love, and the quiet magic woven into everyday life.
Following the talk, guests are invited to a book signing with the author.
Then, the story transforms.
In a rare and moving collaboration, Vivid Dance presents an original live performance inspired by the novel—a kind of “dance trailer” that brings its emotional landscape to life through movement, music, and imagination.
Drawn from themes of love, loss, friendship, and resilience, the performance offers a glimpse into the world of Mackerel Sky—without giving away its secrets.
This is more than a book event. It’s a multi-sensory experience—an invitation to feel the story before (and after) you read it.
