Conversations with History
The Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit brings back their popular summer program, Conversation with History, on two Saturday evenings in July and August. Each are an opportunity for our visitors to be invited to a talk hosted by historians of our community as well as to enjoy sweet treats donated by The Bistro at R & R Chocolate.
On August 25, Professor Diane Fallon will share the stories behind her newly published, Pioneer on a Mountain Bike: Eight Days through Early American History. A passage from her book illustrates a personal connection, “History consists of a series of hands reaching back into the past. Having touched the hand of my great-grandmother, I can almost touch 1776.” Copies of the book will be available to purchase in the Historical Society’s gift shop and during the program.
Dianne Fallon is Department Chair for English at York County Community College where she is currently working the National Endowment for the Humanities Project Director: Go Local: Building Capacity for Public History in York County. The author of Pioneer on a Mountain Bike: Eight Days through Early American History, she also blogs about travel, history, and the outdoors. Dianne began her writing career at The Times Record in Brunswick. She also has published a textbook, Technology and Society, and is a recipient of the Waterman Fund Alpine Essay Award.
The Bistro at R&R Chocolates of Wells, a neighbor of the Historic Society, is a locally owned and family-run business located on Route One. They make chocolate in small handmade batches with the freshest ingredients. It is a showcase for chocolatier Brenda Strum’s elegant & delicious creations.
