Dexter Allen & Band – Mississippi in Maine
Dexter Allen has been bridging the lines between blues, soul, and R&B for several decades, winning numerous awards, including Mississippi’s 2019 “Jus Blues Entertainer of the Year.” In addition to headlining tours and major festivals, Dexter has released over a half dozen acclaimed albums. He grew up in the deep south town of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and counts as his influences gospel music, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin. He was a lead guitarist for seven years to the legendary blues man Bobby Rush, and the experience he gained during that time shaped Dexter as a musician. “Touring the world with Bobby, we’d listen to all kinds of music from Frank Sinatra, to B.B. King, to Etta James, to Howlin’ Wolfe. So at a show fans might hear me introduce a B.B. King or and Albert Collins guitar riff, or all kinds of crazy licks.” Dexter’s own songs are illuminated with lyrical melodies that go right to the heart.
