Historic Mill Walk with Joe Hardy
Join us for a historic tour of local mill sites. Historian and author, Joseph W. Hardy, will lead a caravan of attendees on a journey through our industrial past. Don't miss this popular fall tour! We will drive separately to each site, and maintain social distancing.
Joseph W. Hardy is a Maine native and descendant of several early settlers, including Edmund Littlefield of Wells and Nathan Lord of Berwick. He is a former teacher, school administrator, and environmental consultant. More recently, he has been a builder of traditional, timber-framed homes and a mediator for the Maine Courts.
Now retired, Joe enjoys more time to pursue an interest in local and regional history. He is the author of History of a Maine “Little River,” Settlement & Abandonment on Tatnic Hill: An Eclectic History of Wells, Maine, 1600-1900, and Mills on the Mousam. With his wife, Alice Schediderer, he has lived for many years in Wells on Hill Road, the old “Way to Wells” from South Berwick.
Joe Hardy’s books are in the library at The Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit and available for purchase in the gift shop.
