Ogunquit Pride Events Celebrate “Be Yourself & Be Proud”
Pride flag raising & celebration scheduled for June 1
Ogunquit, ME, May 2024 - Ogunquit Pride will be on full display this year during LGBTQ+ Pride Month, kicking off with a series of special events scheduled for Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2.
The informal kick-off takes place at the West Meadow Pub at the Meadowmere Resort on Friday evening, beginning at 5:30pm. They’ll be live music by Lee Ross, Pride cocktails and festive fun to welcome guests to Ogunquit Pride.
Before heading to Saturday’s morning’s flag raising, take in Ogunquit by air with a free ride aboard RE/MAX Realty One’s hot air balloon, launching from Agamenticus Field from 9-10:30am.
Opening ceremonies on Saturday, June 1, begin at 10:30am at Veterans Park. The ceremony, mc’d by Blake from Maine’s Coast 93.1, includes a flag raising, speakers and music, followed by all participants joining in to carry a giant Pride flag from Veterans Park to Dorothea Jacobs Grant Common.
The celebration continues there at Grant Common with Picnic in the Park, from 11a-2p, with live music featuring Lynn Deeves and Carole Wise, and entertainment by DJ Don – don’t forget to bring your picnic lunch! In addition to the music, visit with LGBTQ+ vendors and their allies, who’ll be promoting LGBTQ+ programs, products, and services.
Live music continues from 2-4p, featuring Lisa Mills and the Ocean Ave Band, in Rotary Park in Perkins Cove, brought to you by Ogunquit Parks & Recreation.
Sunday’s Drag Brunch at Nikanos features entertainment by Cherry Lemonade at noon.
Ogunquit Chamber member businesses will be celebrating Ogunquit Pride with more events all weekend long. MaineStreet hosts drag show “Dance, Edie, Dance!”, an Ogunquit Pride Month Kick off Party with DJ Aga, and Karaoke with Joanna on Friday evening. Celebrations at the dance club continue Saturday with Pride Tea and a free BBQ at 3pm, and the drag show, dancing, and Dueling Drag Divas on Saturday evening. Sunday’s key event is Ogunquit’s Got Talent at 7pm; the club also hosts a Heels & Harness Tea Dance and Karaoke that afternoon and evening.
Pride entertainment at the Leavitt Theatre for the weekend includes two drag shows: “Burlesque on the Beach” featuring Reverend Legs Malone on Saturday night, and “Piper Allnight” on Sunday night.
Ogunquit Playhouse will be highlighting Pride during its performances of “Waitress” (through June 8) and “Crazy for You” (beginning June 13) by lighting up the theatre in rainbow colors throughout the month.
